I have a speed passion and its on the list but the motor is 8.5t witch isn't from what I can see on the list. do you think it would still be good as it has other  and it wasn't made at the time?

For mod the speedo and motor are open.

Neil.

I stand corrected as they do say a ROAR approved motor further down in the rules.

Found it.. Your good.  Silly that they would have to approve a "mod" motor though.. I thought the whole point was to "Run what brung.... And hope you brung enough. "

Hey all,

I am pretty sure that for both Modified classes (TC & 12th), the motor is completely open.  There is no ROAR approval needed at all.  Same goes for your ESC when running it in Modified classes.

Neil, you mentioned that the rules state something about ROAR for Modified.  Where do you see this?

Thanks,
Blake

Well, its still pretty "open" though.. ROAR's modified rules state the motor must be an 05 (540) sized can, 1/8 output shaft, and if it uses sensors then it must use the standard sensor port.    No mention of Windings, Diameters, or any of that jazz.

Blake, I think what Neil is referring to is on WCICS rule book, page 11 & 12 (2013).

Then what is the point of a roar approved battery if nothing else is regulated for those two classes?

Don't get me started Jerry.. I have already had two topics locked on me this year.. Lets not make it three...   (I think my record is 4 in one year..)

But no good question should go unanswered so,  the "ROAR" sticker makes the batteries safer, and makes sure the battery conforms to the standardized physical dimension.  ::)  ROAR approves MOD motors so they basically will conform to dimensional standards, and fit properly in all our cars. (which I think is a good thing).

In before the lock..

Heres a question.. Why are people buyin buyin all this non roar approved  gear when EVERYONE knows that roar approved is the standard at every track, and every race? The way I understood it is that the club had a gentlemans agreement that everything had to be atleast roar legal? Yet people recently still bought the known, non approved stuff and now upset that they can't use them because they don't fit the rules. I'm all for Savin money but , c'mon.

Funny how how many people don't have roar approved batteries and I'm sure other stuff, but jumped all over not letting people run their d3.5 17.5 as soon as it was temporarily non-approved..

How many? My guess is Zero.

Funny on how many people find the time to troll on this website, but never seem to find the time to actually race.

I think for the future when the exec polls the club for information/idea, everyones "vote/input" should be weighted to how many times that person actually raced the previous season. (keeping Winter and Summer racing separate).

Hey Shawn,

Ah thanks - I didn't see that part on page 11/12.  It sort of contradicts page 7 where is says:

"Motor: Stock/spec class motors must be on the ROAR approved list as of the date of the race."

That kind of implies that Mod classes do not need to be on the ROAR list.  I will have to ask Josh for clarification, but if you are running in Mod classes, I would not worry about your motor or ESC.  I've never seen those items checked at any race in Mod classes.

Hey Gerry,

Shawn kind of covered it, but I think most race promoters look for the easiest way to give the "feel" of creating a safe event.  By limiting batteries to the ROAR list, they at least know the battery has been inspected by *someone*.  Honestly, I'm sure ROAR has approved some batteries that are of suspect quality... they just don't have the resources to test a battery thoroughly enough to guarantee any sort of safety.  But, it is at least one firewall to keep manufacturers from producing the cheapest (and possibly unsafe) product they can get away with.

So, in short, I think it's a safety thing - not a performance thing.

PS.  As for the locking - there is no reason to lock this.

Healthy debate and questioning is completely fine for our website.  If a racer has a question, there is no problem with him/her raising it.  Everyone will have their own opinion on the answer, and some of us are better than others at listening and trying to understand another person's viewpoint.

Personal attacks and inappropriate language is where we have to draw the line since this is a public forum.  Please keep that to PMs, or better yet, talk it out in person.

Pretty sure I was out last week?

And you wonder why people recently choose to run offroad, less attitude and  bs you miss races for more important things.

yes I see how a simple question can get out of hand by others. But I am all good for batteries now thanks to hobby king. but I am one that doesn't see the point to spend hundreds of dollars on battery's when they will start to puff by next season. so cheap is good for me and hobby king prices are even better, and roar approved.  just seamed weird that everything needs to be roar approved but mod.

Falcon

I also understand that things get out of hand. What I don't see is why do we poke our fellow racers and try and get them upset. This is a forum for for good things expressed not to poke others and I understand why some have left. Do we try and get threads closed ??. It doesn't matter if racers show up once or four times a month just that they show up when they can.
